What the law says
Morocco VAT rates 2026: 20% and 10%
Since 1 January 2026, VAT in Morocco has only two rates. The 20% rate applies by default; the 10% rate only to the goods and services the law lists.
| Rate | What it applies to | Legal text |
|---|---|---|
| 20% Standard rate | Every taxable sale that is neither at 10% nor exempt. For example: most services (consulting, IT, advertising, website creation), electricity and electricity meter rental, which moved to 20% on 1 January 2026. | Tax Code, art. 99-A |
| 10% Reduced rate | A closed list, including: hotels, restaurants and cafés; banking and credit; rice, cooking salt, edible oils (except palm oil), refined sugar, long or stuffed pasta; petroleum gas (butane); urban and road transport; museum, cinema and theatre tickets. | Tax Code, art. 99-B |
| Exempt No VAT | Nothing to add to the price. For example: bread, flour, milk, butter, fresh meat and fish, short pasta (since 2026), books and school supplies, medicines, exports. | Tax Code, art. 91 and 92 |
| 7% · 14% Abolished | The reform passed in 2024 brought VAT down to two rates, with transition rates in 2024 and 2025. The old rates are now only useful to recalculate an old invoice. | 2024 Finance Law, art. 6; Tax Code, art. 247-XXXXI |

The formulas
VAT calculator formulas: excl. VAT to incl. VAT
VAT is always worked out on the price excluding VAT: that is the base set by article 96 of the General Tax Code.
-
From excl. VAT to incl. VAT
TTC = HT × (1 + rate)At 20%, multiply by 1.2; at 10%, by 1.1. Example: 1,000 excl. VAT × 1.2 = 1,200 incl. VAT.
-
From incl. VAT to excl. VAT
HT = TTC ÷ (1 + rate)At 20%, divide by 1.2; at 10%, by 1.1. Example: 1,200 incl. VAT ÷ 1.2 = 1,000 excl. VAT.
-
The VAT amount
TVA = HT × rate = TTC − HTFrom a price including VAT, the VAT is one sixth of the price at 20%, and one eleventh at 10%.
The mistake to avoid: incl. VAT × 0.8
Taking 20% off the price including VAT does not give the price excluding VAT: 1,200 × 0.8 = 960, while the right answer is 1,000. VAT is 20% of the price excluding VAT, not of the price including it. So divide by 1.2, or by 1.1 at the 10% rate.
What about the centimes?
The calculator rounds the VAT to the centime, then adds it to the amount excluding VAT: the three amounts add up exactly, as on an invoice. The General Tax Code sets no rounding rule for invoices; its article 167 only rounds the amounts declared to the tax office.

Frequently asked questions
VAT in Morocco: your questions
What are the VAT rates in Morocco in 2026?
Two rates: 20%, the standard rate, and 10%, a reduced rate kept for a closed list of goods and services (article 99 of the General Tax Code). The old 7% and 14% rates disappeared at the end of the reform passed in 2024. Some basic products are exempt.
How do I get the price including VAT from the price excluding VAT?
Multiply the amount excluding VAT by 1.2 at the 20% rate, or by 1.1 at the 10% rate. For example, 1,000 excl. VAT × 1.2 = 1,200 incl. VAT, of which 200 is VAT.
How do I go from incl. VAT (TTC) to excl. VAT (HT)?
Divide the amount including VAT by 1.2 at the 20% rate, or by 1.1 at the 10% rate. For example, 1,800 incl. VAT ÷ 1.2 = 1,500 excl. VAT. Do not multiply by 0.8: the result would be wrong.
How do I find the VAT included in a price?
At the 20% rate, divide the price including VAT by 6; at the 10% rate, divide it by 11. For example, a price of 600 incl. VAT contains 100 of VAT at 20%.
Does the 14% VAT rate still exist in Morocco?
No. Since 1 January 2026, electricity and transport other than urban or road transport are at 20%, urban and road transport at 10%. To recalculate an old invoice, pick “Other” in the calculator and type its rate.
What VAT applies to a website or online advertising?
20%: these services are not on the 10% list. Since August and October 2026, TikTok and then Meta may also add 20% VAT to ads bought from Morocco.
Are my amounts saved?
No. The calculation runs in your browser: nothing is sent or kept. The “Share” link only holds the amount and the rate you typed.
